Turkey has a very long and complicated history of left right conflict that goes in the modern era

I should say after the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the founding of the

modern Turkish Republic in 1923. Part of the mission of the, part of the work of the early Turkish Republic,

it was establishing the foundation of a quote-unquote Turkish identity that work that had already

started under the the nationalist regime that took over right before the fall of

the Ottoman Empire during the First World War the young Turks the Ottoman Empire during the First World War, the Young Turks.

The Ottoman Empire was a polyglot empire, to say the least.

It was comprised of people who came from all over Eastern Europe, Anatolia, the Arabian Peninsula,

the Levent, North Africa, and that really informed the kind of ruling class of the way that the Ottoman bureaucracy

was set up in the sense of nationalism.

It was very, very, very polyglot and in the late 19th, early 20th century those you know nationalist sentiments the

you know independence war of independence with Greece the independent

movement in in Armenia that caused a lot of clashes within the empire.
