Hello, my fellow historians. Welcome back. It's Sunday, Bloodmagic Sunday. In this episode,

0:16.2

we will look at all the examples of Bloodmagic, and those who use it, what types of spells and

0:20.8

effects it has, both in general and on the story. We'll talk about its origins, the societies,

0:26.9

and cities known for it. Famous examples from history, legends, and lore, that sort of thing.

0:32.4

Feel free as well to give us your favorite examples, because it's not always easy to tell what

0:36.3

counts as Bloodmagic and what doesn't. That's something we'll be discussing as well.

0:39.8

There will be a little bit of House of the Dragon info mixed in here. When I wrote this,

0:43.8

I said a few bits, but as it turns out, there's really just one. And it came straight from George

0:50.8

through Ryan Condol. So that's cool. Game of Thrones, on the other hand, cut out a lot of what we'd

0:56.3

call Bloodmagic. It won't really just magic in general. It went its own way in a few other spots,

1:00.8

and sometimes it stuck to the book. So there's not a lot to add there. So there's no

1:04.8

discussion from the first TV show in this one. As well, we shall include a few examples of Bloodmagic

1:10.3

we might expect to see down the road, or people who we might expect to use it, even if we don't

1:15.3

know what precisely they're going to do. Magic is fun, in part, because it's used sparingly in this

1:22.2

world. And as with most things, it has George's care and brilliance behind it, plus the influence

1:27.4

of the genre. In this case, we're dealing with one of, if not the most evil forms of magic.

1:32.3

It certainly feels that way. Generally, throughout the story, characters react to it with revolgion

1:37.2

and extreme prejudice from a variety of different cultures. This isn't just

1:41.6

but Westerossi that react this way. And in their world, it isn't just superstition.

1:45.4

It's as real as it gets. And there's quite a lot of it out there for us to discuss. Indeed,

1:49.8

you might be surprised at what we consider Bloodmagic or what we don't.

1:54.0

That'll lead us to talk about sacrifice a lot. Most of the cases where blood and or death are involved.
