The U.S. State Department is working on an official, wrongful detention designation for Wall Street

Journal reporter Evan Garishkavitch, who's been detained in Russia since last week.

It is not in any way sort of, you know, meant to swoop in and necessarily release Evan from

his detention or anything like that, but what it does is it gets the wheels in motion at the

State Department officially to accelerate work on his case. And House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

meets with Taiwan president Siang Wen in California, despite Chinese warnings.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken says he has no doubt Wall Street Journal reporter Evan

Garishkavitch was wrongfully detained during a reporting trip in Russia last week,

but that the process to reach an official determination is pending. Blinken spoke to reporters

in Brussels where he's attending a ministerial summit for NATO.

In Evan's case, we are working through the determination on wrongful detention.

And there's a process to do that and it's something that we're working through very deliberately,

but expeditiously as well. And I'll let that process play out.
