Hello and welcome to another Slate spoiler special. I am Sam Adams, a culture editor here at Slate, and today we are spoiling the movie Blinded by the Light.

Blinded by the Light is the story of Javid, the British-born son of Pakistani immigrants, who becomes obsessed with the music of Bruce Springsteen.

It's the 1980s, the height of Thatcherism, the resurgence of the racist National Front, and the Golden Age of synth pop, all of which makes Springsteen deeply unfashionable.
