Our scriptural text today comes from two separate passages.

The first one is Psalm 42, verse 11.

Notice, why am I discouraged?

Why is my heart so sad?

I will put my hope in God.

I will praise him again, my Savior and my God.

And the next passage, Psalm 61, verse 1 through 4, O God, listen to my prayer.

To my cry, hear my prayer.

From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help.

When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the towering rock

of safety. For you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live

forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings. We're talking today from the subject,

blessed hope. Blessed hope. If you're never experienced challenge and controversy and

difficulty in your life, you would never need hope.

If you never had people close to you to die, you would never need hope.

Here the psalmist was saying, when my heart is overwhelmed,

I'm going to go to the rock that is higher than I am.

When my heart is overwhelmed, and there are different situations and circumstances in this life

that can overwhelm your heart.

You can get overwhelmed very easily when too much happens too quickly for you to process it and to digest it. I meant when you're,

when you've got more bills than you've got money to pay the bills, you can feel overwhelmed.

As a student in school, when you get too many assignments, too much reading, too many things to do.
