welcome to Music Matters, a podcast series about all things music. Today we have a special guest, Billy Joel Protege, I guess I would say, is Michael Kavanaugh, who's one of the world's busiest symphony performers,

has been touring the country and the world actually since, I guess 2005,

and we're going to talk about all that stuff.

But hello, Michael, how you doing?

I'm doing great, how you doing, Darrell?

I'm good.

So we're actually both in Vegas.

We are.

We're just to actually, it actually almost in the same part of Vegas,

so you're like right at the street from me, but we're going to do our Zoom. Yeah, doing our Zoom meeting boogie.

So when did you first move to Vegas? I moved to Vegas the first time in 99. In 97 I started

doing gigs here at the dueling piano bar at the New York, New York Hotel and

Casino. Right, which is still going casino right now right now but it's

right up and running yeah it's still kind of the heartbeat of that casino it

really is but you know back in I started doing the dueling piano thing in like 1994 in Florida and

Basically the the gig in Vegas was more money and back then I was just I was scraping by I was just trying to get my bills back then so I would

fly out whenever another guy would take a vacation and I would do the gig just because it paid more

and then eventually I want a spot opened up I moved here in 99.
