William Henry Gates III was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington.

He was the only son of William Gates and Mary Maxwell.

He did have an older sister and a younger sister, but he was the only boy.

His father was a prominent lawyer and his mother served on the board of directors of first interstate bank system incorporated and United Way

America. Mary's father was a national bank president and was extremely influential. He was also

the director of San Francisco's Federal Reserve District.

He had a lot of power, which is probably why Mary was on these boards when women typically

weren't sitting on boards like this. William Gates, Sr. ran in the same circles as George Soros

and the Rockefeller family. So yes, he was a lawyer, but he was a very influential lawyer.

So both his parents had a lot of pool and a lot of influence in the world.
