Dear Latino USA listener, President Donald Trump has signed an executive order making English the official language of the United States for the first time in almost 250 years.

The order says it, quote, recognizes and celebrates the long tradition of multilingual American

citizens who have learned English and passed it to their children for generations to come.

More than 60 million people in the United States speak a language other than English at home,

with Spanish being that other language for over 40 million residents of this country.

At Latino USA, where I and many members of our staff speak Spanish at home,

we celebrate bilingualism, and we're proud to pass

our mother language on to our children, which is why today, dear listener, we want to bring you

a very fitting story that celebrates the preservation of language and culture.
