The United States posted its largest trade deficit ever last year.

Data from the Commerce Department show the country imported nearly $950 billion more worth of goods than it exported.

That is an increase of more than 12% from the previous year.

President Joe Biden did not mention the deficit in his annual state of the Union address last night,

but he did vow to spur more American production and decrease the dependency on other countries.
