In recent weeks, Democrats in Congress have been trying to pass a multi-trillion dollar

spending bill, and inside that bill is a major piece of President Joe Biden's climate

agenda.

If the bill is passed, it would mark a significant milestone in the U.S.'s fight against climate

change.

This climate plan could transform the U.S. economy by pushing power companies to produce

more clean electricity.

Our colleague, Shavon Yu, says this program could ripple out to other industries.

This is the basis of everything.

What we're talking about, basically, is electrification of the economy, so the utilities

are the cornerstone.

How ambitious is this idea compared to other ideas that have been proposed to take on

climate change?

This is a very, very significant idea.

Turning now to Capitol Hill.

The most significant climate legislation to come out of Congress yet, the most sweeping

climate measure in the bill, aiming to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Almost every Democrat in the Senate supports this plan, except one.

And because of the opposition of this single lawmaker, the most important piece of Biden's

climate agenda has been declared officially dead.
