Welcome back to Beyond the Polls. This week, I delve deep into Tuesday night's primary results

and preview more wacky ads of the week. Let's dive in. Well, Tuesday night, that was quite something.

In one respect, it was exactly what we expected. And in another respect, it's a whole new bulking.

Let me explain why it's both of those things.

Experts and the prediction markets had thought that Democratic State Representative James Talleyco would beat Firebrand, Dallas area, Congresswoman, Jasmine Crockett.

And they were right. As I speak, it looks like

Tala Rico is going to win by about seven points. Texas counts its votes a little slowly.

So there's still some Election Day votes out, but nothing big enough to actually shift the results.

It looks like what Talariko was able to do was what the poll suggested he was

able to do, build a coalition of higher-income whites and Hispanics to beat back Crockets'

coalition that was primarily based on overwhelming margins among the sizable black community,

but also among people who particularly liked her aggressive, no-nonsense

in-your-face style.

Crockett has conceded.

So the Democrats get the candidate they wanted, somebody who they think is better positioned

to appeal to moderates and Republicans who might be disappointed with the expected nominee, Attorney General Ken Paxton,

and thereby put Texas in play. Well, if you're at all following politics, and if you're listening to this podcast,

you certainly are. The idea of Texas turning blue is a longtime Democratic dream.

It continually is the political example of Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown.

And I know that dates me, but still, it's popular enough and well-known enough that even my younger listeners probably have some reference.
