NATO, the People's Republic of China. Together for the first time perhaps. I welcome Gordon

Chang at Gordon G. Chang, Gase Tho Newsweek in the Hill. And we're very pleased to welcome

retired US Navy captain James Finnell. Now government fellow at the Geneva Center for Security

Policy to help us first with the big thinking on NATO and the PRC, especially the PLA

Navy. And then secondly, to turn our attention to the vast Pacific and the Oceania Islands

that are now in contention between Beijing and Washington and Canberra and so many more

capitals. Gentlemen, a very good evening to you. I go immediately to the NATO meeting

underway in Madrid, Spain. And Gordon, I come to you because I do not have history on

this. As NATO concerned itself with the PRC's aggression here to four because it's naming

the PRC in the new document. Good evening to you, Gordon.

Good evening, John. In the past, NATO in effect has dealt with China, but not officially.

So for instance, we have seen ships from NATO countries in the South China Sea, East

China Sea and elsewhere. But this is really the first time that NATO as an institution is

formally naming China as an area of concern.

Jim, a good evening to you. You guide me to a strategic concept document that NATO is

posted on its website. And you guide me to paragraph 13, paragraph 14 for NATO's concerns.
