I'm John Batchel with my colleague, Michael Jan.

Michael Jan at Locals.com, Michael's reporting from the Darian province, the Southermost

province of Panama, abutting the triple canopy jungle that describes the Darian gap when

the Pan American highway breaks where right where Michael is right now at the edge of the

Darian gap and doesn't start again till Columbia.

In order to reach the United States, if you're coming from Africa or the Caribbean or South

America or Central Asia, you must traverse the 60 miles or more of triple canopy jungle

with mountainous passes and swollen rivers to reach where Michael is right now.

Since last year there's been a change in the flow of migrants, not only increased which

Michael is testified to, but where they're coming from.

Michael, if I recall correctly, last year we puzzled about where the migrants were coming

from and when you first recorded from the Columbia side of the Darian gap, you met a

knee-pleased man and you spent time in Nepal and so he was looking for his friends and we

were struck by the fact that people were coming from Central Asia via a transit, say he
