The Premier League is reaching its conclusion and it's that time of the year when the big prizes are handed out.

And they come no more prestigious than the Sky Sports End of Season Awards.

I'm Peter Smith and on this edition of the Essential

Football Podcast I'm joined by Features Writer Nick Wright and Football Journalists Sam Blitz

to discuss, debate and celebrate the best and the not so good in the Premier League this season.

But first Nick as a season overall from top to bottom and with a World Cup in between. I think this was

a campaign that wasn't short on content, was it? Certainly wasn't though. It's been pretty

hectic really, hasn't it? On all fronts, lots of great storylines as well. I mean, lots

of unpredictability in the season. You know, you've got Arsenal challenging for the title.

Liverpool dropping out the top four, Tottenham and Chelsea imploding, Lester in a relegation

battle, Brighton becoming one of the best teams in Europe suddenly.

And I mean, if you told a leads fan a year ago that Sam Aladice would be replacing

Marcelo Bielsa as their manager sort of, you know, a little over a year apart.

Then they wouldn't have believed you, would they?

So that kind of sums up the craziness of this season.

But yeah, it's been great to watch, hasn't it?

Yeah, absolutely. And Sam, Man City eight points clear at the top ahead of Arsenal now, going into this final weekend.

But it didn't look like that for a long time. As Nick said, we had a great title race for most

of the season. We've got Newcastle back in the top four, big sides slipping up.

Even going into this final weekend though, we still got that relegation battle to be decided.

So we could have a few more twists as well to come.
