I did that thing where you discover an athlete from the past that you had forgotten about completely, quite literally an Olympic sport star that tend to fade as, you know, the Olympics are over, you forget about certain people,

especially if they were gold medalists in something that you just don't watch any other time

but the Olympics.

Like, they're not involved in another sport where you even remotely pay attention to.

Like, I don't, I'm not paying attention to Greco Roman wrestling.

Just not doing it.

I could name a single individual competing in Greco Roman wrestling.

But I remembered Ruland Gardner.

Do you remember that?

Are you old enough to remember Rueh-Roman Gardner?

Well, because any time you watch Greco-Roman wrestling in the Olympics, that name is brought up a billion times.

Because he beat a Russian that hadn't lost in a thousand years and looked like King Kong and was the devil.

He was like a tax collector in Russia with a shaved head.

And you should have seen this guy that he beat.

I remember when he beat him.

It's insane. He beat, his name was Alexander Carl, Carlin, I think it was.

The guy he beat, the Russian he beat, hadn't lost in 13 years.

He hadn't given up a point in six years.

He was considered literally unbeatable.

So Rulan Garner beat him in the 2000 Olympics, and it was a huge deal because he won the gold.

He was an American.
