Mark Weingarner, he is a professor at Florida State University in the English Department,

creative writing, also author. And you may have read his most recent article, The Legend of

Dan Kendra, the Rise, Fall, and happy landing of the nation's

top recruit. And I get the sense, Mark, if we get a chance that this won't be the last time we

talk. You've got a story coming out, I believe, on Bjorn Warner as well as the draft

approaches. That's right. That'll be in ESPN, the magazine, and their draft preview.

All right. We'll talk about that. And then I just love the fact that you're an author and that you

furthered the Godfather franchise, if you will. So people know of you. That's right. That's who is in

studio now. First of all, thanks for joining us. I appreciate it. Yeah, my pleasure. I've been listening

for a long time, so I'm glad to be in the studio with you. What led to the Dan Kendra story?

I especially took a liking to this story.

I think many people did based on the responses via email.

But I was here then.

I was finishing up school here then, and I sat next to him in baseball games over at Dick

Houser, and he had this mythical larger-than-life figure.

And reading your

article allows me to kind of go back to that time and really recognize, as you definitely point

out, how different things were then for recruits. It didn't really exist. Yeah, that's true.

I mean, these days, I mostly am writing my freelance work for ESPN, but the guy who's the series editor for Best American Sports Writer writing, Glenn Stout, was given sort of the helm to edit SB Nation Longform, a portion of that site that would specialize in long form journalism.
