This text has this interesting critique of politics and radical politics in particular mirroring religion.

0:06.6

So is it true that, quote, much of radical politics is religion by another name, end quote?

0:13.0

And, you know, is it, as the author says, a mutation of the Christian moral drama equipped with a sort of dogmatic enlightenment concept of progress.

0:22.1

And what would our politics be without this religious form?

0:25.9

Yeah, so I think this is an interesting and worthwhile exploration and actually one that I've,

0:29.8

you know, try to find outlets to kind of tackle this because this is an interesting criticism

0:34.2

of our politics in general.

0:36.0

And I've even heard recent content on like YouTube, for

0:39.2

example, where this exact argument through a Nietzschean lens is raised against communists

0:44.1

and socialist of various sorts. So it's definitely worthwhile, even though it does kind of

0:48.6

depart a tad bit from the bulk of this text because, you know, this thing is thrown out a

0:53.5

couple times, but it's not central to the text. But I saw it as an opportunity to tackle it. So let's go

0:57.9

1:03.1

of the death of God and his profound concerns about what will fill that God-shaped whole

1:08.8

in the hearts of modern men and women. He prophesied various

1:12.3

forms of nihilism that can take hold in the absence of that almighty moral and psychological ballast

1:18.2

that we call God in religion. Many argue that the extreme political movements that arose in the

1:23.3

century following Nietzsche's death, most notably Nazism, but also communism and liberal

1:28.1

capitalism and nationalism more generally, were one way in which we sublimated in an unhealthy

1:33.9

way, our deep desire to have our lives made sense of and our sense of self-fortified

1:39.3

through the everyday grounding rituals of religious faith, the bedrock of unquestionable religious belief,

1:45.8

and the existential relief offered by divinely ordained hierarchies.
