Summary

In this episode, Ben Schneider, guitarist and singer for the critically acclaimed indie band Lord Huron, joins Rhett from his studio in Los Angeles. Ben tells Rhett about the early days of his career and the moment he realized that he wanted to play in a band. He explains why living in Los Angeles helps him push through creative obstacles, the impact that nature has on his writing, and the importance of collaboration in his creative endeavors.   Lord Huron broke out in 2015 with their hit song “The Night We Met,” which has been streamed over 700 million times. Their intimate take on indie-folk borrows influences from lap steel-laced desert-country, while retaining a modern sound that’s well ahead of the curve. Ben Schneider is at the helm of their efforts, providing authentic and rich textures in his singing and guitar playing. Their latest album “Long Lost”, is available now.   Wheels Off is brought to you by Osiris Media. Hosted by Rhett Miller. But if I were to describe it, as I do, I think, a few times during the course of this interview,

0:54.9

probably you can tell that I'm a fan if you listen to this.

0:58.2

If I were to describe it, I would say that his music is cinematic, open, airy, evocative.

1:06.1

It's really beautiful.

1:07.9

It's really moving.

1:09.4

And then when you see his band perform live, there are moments

1:13.3

of intense, loud, rock and roll, big, you know, floor toms pounding and, and guitars wailing

1:20.2

and him screaming and lots of multi-layered vocal harmonies happening. And man, it's just, it's really great.

1:30.0

He's one of my favorite musicians out there working right now.

1:34.5

Not that any of us are out there working at the moment.

1:38.0

But his band has been able to put together a new album, Long Lost, that will be dropping in May, and I got to listen to it,

1:46.8

and it's great. Unsurprisingly, it's great, as is Ben Schneider. And I don't know that he does

1:57.1

a lot of just sit down, sort of introspection, talk about Ben Schneider interviews,

2:01.7

so I feel pretty lucky that he did that for me, for us, here on Wheelsoft.
