Hello and welcome to the Story Grid podcast. This is a show dedicated to helping you become a better

0:06.0

writer. I'm your host Tim Graal and I am a struggling writer trying to figure out how to tell a story

0:11.9

that works. Joining me shortly is Sean Coyne. He is the creator of Story Grid, the author of the

0:18.0

book Story Grid and an editor with over 25 years experience.

0:22.3

So there's two things I want to say here at the beginning. So the first off is just,

0:27.7

this is a great episode. So we go over the first few scenes in my ending payoff and we use that

0:33.6

as an opportunity to talk about what an ending payoff is, what you have to do at the beginning

0:39.1

1:18.8

But I realized that one of the threads through this story is understanding that just, you know, your family doesn't have to be the people that

1:31.5

you're related to with blood.

1:34.0

In fact, a lot of times those are the people that let you down the most, but yet we

1:38.1

constantly hang on to them hoping that there'll be the people we need them to be.

1:42.8

While so many times the people around us are our true family, you know, they're not related

1:48.6

to us by blood, but they are our true family.

1:51.8

They're the ones that are supporting us in a day-to-day basis and will be there when the

1:55.9

chips are really down.
