Hello everyone just a bit of a post script though we're posting it at the beginning of the episode

because it was after our taping that we had the convulsive event of the attempt of the assassination of Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania,

actually my old stomping grounds is U.S. attorney and by a shooter who appears to actually be from Pittsburgh, a kind of bedroom

community there.

So Susan has very kindly agreed to come back and just talk about it a bit. I want to start by stipulating. There are a more

immediate and grave matters than what we're going to talk about for a few minutes. There is

Trump's well-being. There's the figuring out how the

shooter could have had a line-of-sight shot. There's determining if he's an actual

lone wolf. There's what happens going forward.

There is all the way in which this may be symptomatic of our politics now and

be beyond the reach of law enforcement.

All of that, all of that more important,

but it just would be somewhat anomalous

to launch into the discussion

that you're about to hear with Susan,

Jason, and Mike Podhorser without having

the gloss of the Trump shooting

and how it plays into the general subject matter that we focus on in the

episode. So Susan, thanks very much for returning. I'm grateful to be with you. There's obviously a lot to discuss.
