Texas House Republicans are moving closer to approving new congressional maps after a 15-day

boycott from Democrats. The maps would create five more Republican-leaning House seats in time

for next year's midterms. Relegated to the minority, Democrats have no viable way to stop passage of the maps,

but are trying to make their case against the bill

in a lengthy floor debate that could delay the process.

They're protesting the GOP House Speaker's order

that places Democratic members who fled the state weeks earlier

to prevent a quorum under law enforcement

You all chose to walk out. To me, you damaged the process. You kept people away. You kept work

from being done. Don't use that as an excuse to belabor this bill.

State Representative Gene Boo is introducing an amendment that would block the congressional maps from going into effect until all files related to Jeffrey Epstein are released.

It's not likely to pass, but Democrats are hoping to put the GOP in a politically tough spot with the vote.
