This week I do have choice words about how the U.S. got bounced from the World Cup,

but we're going to start in these dog digs of summer by talking NBA draft,

one of my favorite topics, particularly the 2003 NBA draft.

That draft is regarded as perhaps the best in NBA history, along with

1984 and 1996. 1984 was the draft of Jordan, Elijah, on, Barclay, Stockton. That's just

amazing if you think about that for a second. 1996 was Kobe, Iverson, Ray Allen, and Steve Nash for First Ballad Hall of Famers.

In 2003, you had of course LeBron, D. Wade, Chris Bosch, and the great Carmelo Anthony.

Now, all these drafts contain what ifs.

What if Portland instead of Chicago had selected Jordan is the most famous example of that.

But there are a few what-ifs that have generated more discussion than the order of the first three picks in the 2003 draft.

One, you add, of course, LeBron to Cleveland.

Two, a 17-year-old named Darko Milichichich to Detroit.
