You know, if my mother was still around today, I know that she'd love to keep the conversations

going with some of today's stars and see how they would answer her questions.

And now, Barry Manilow talks to Lucy.

We have a lot of questions we want to ask you.

Okay.

How did you get started in the business?

Well, in the business, I started off accompanying singers.

I was a piano player, arranger, accompanist, and I wanted to be an arranger, orchestrator, and that.

I never wanted to be a performer, ever, ever, never thought about it.

And so I got started in the business by playing piano for singers and orchestrating for their arrangements.

And one of the people that I worked with for quite a while with Bet Midler and I gave her a lot of arrangements that she still uses today.

What do you like about yourself the most?

Ooh, that's an interesting question. What do I like about myself?

I'm going to tell you what I like about myself the most, but I give the credit to the people that raised me, my grandparents,

and all the people

in Brooklyn. I think I'm a decent guy. And I think I'm still the same guy that I was before I

became the super megastar sex god that I seemed to have become. But I don't think I've let that

crazy fame change me too much. And I give that all to the people that

raised me. Who would you most like to be in the history of the world? I would like to be the

guy that made you feel good. That's always been my goal. I look out at a bunch of people night

after night, and I know that they're all not happy.

And my job is to entertain and to make them feel better when they leaves than when they came in.
