Summary

#155. Welcome back. After a long summer break your favourite United podcast returns with a full review of the summer - United's inactivity in the transfer market, Wayne Rooney's shenanigans and the pre-season tour to Asia. It has been one of the most dramatic summers in the club's long history, with Sir Alex Ferguson stepping down in April to be replaced by David Moyes. Yet the new manager has encountered significant frustration, with a series of seemingly failed bids for central midfielders. But have Moyes and the new United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward been culpable in an embarrassing set of market gaffes? On the theme of Old Trafford's bean counters the squad flew more than 25,000 miles touring Asia and Australia. It hasn't been a wholly successful tour on the pitch, although three young players stood out. With preview the season, including some predictions for the campaign ahead. Finally, we look forward to Sunday's Community Shield match with Championship side Wigan Athletic at Wembley. No Question About That is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music and all good podcast apps. hop back in just in time for Fabrogas nonsense to start in earnest.

0:45.8

How's your summer been, Ed?

0:47.2

Well, it's been a saga wrapped in a saga, hasn't it?

0:49.5

And then a little bit of a saga on top.

0:51.2

I thought the saga was an association for old people.

0:54.0

Yeah, it is. Alex Ferguson has retired now and so he's joined Saga, so all our transfers are a SAG.

1:02.0

This is not going to work as an analogy.

1:03.7

It's not working, is it? Yeah, my son has been pretty good, equally enjoying the weather,

1:09.2

enjoying being in the country, rather than globe-trossing around the world world which has been a pleasure unlike United's team which has done about 25,000 miles all in the name of good preparation.

1:20.0

I mean it's crazy it's obviously crazy to spend that much time on planes during

1:25.8

preseason but we know this is the way it is now and the players seem to enjoy it and

1:29.9

fans all you know there's some there are some good things to it it must be lovely if

1:34.0

you're a really devoted Manchester United fan in the parts of the world where they

1:38.8

travel to on tour must be wonderful for you to get to see them. There was a point in which United, and a United

1:44.2

11, which was pretty high-strength side actually played Creu-Alexander, and I was thinking

1:48.9

now that's pre-season. Creu Alexander, them and new Ventus, those are the acceptable teams to play in pre-season, the rest of it I'm not sure about.

1:56.4

We managed to lose to the singer-all-stars, Ed.

1:59.4

Yeah, it wasn't good. I remember the time when United used to tour tour Scandinavia and maybe the odd trip to Ireland

2:04.8

that was about as exotic as it got.

2:07.0

Although someone did send me a very nice link over the summer, a tour in the 1950s to the United States where they played about 12 games to about three months
