I'm the editor of Venture warfare magazine, and today we're going to try and talk about the

Greco-Persian Wars, if we can manage to do that without all, laughing all the time.

I'm sorry, it's a very serious topic, clearly.

But let's just start with the question, see where we go.

Michael and Facebook asked, what did the Persians record in their histories about the conflict?

Very little is the bottom line of that one.

The interesting thing from the Persian perspective,

and obviously the way that the Persian wars have been pitched in Western historiography is problematically always been East versus West.

Probably the Persians were a massive empire stretching from the coast of Ionia in modern day Turkey all the way to the Hindu Kush in modern-day India,

you know, from the north, from Armenia down to Egypt.

So it's a vast empire.

Mainland Greece is a very small addition to that empire on its western fringe.
