“As a female founder, one of the most important things is to be surrounded by other people who are willing to call you out when they notice signs of burnout,” says Katy Ursta. Along with her Co-Founder, Melanie Mitro, Katy helps women reach their business goals, as well as navigate some of the pitfalls of entrepreneurship through their work at Chic Influencer. One common trait among female founders is the experience of burnout. The symptoms of which can wreak havoc on our bodies resulting in extreme exhaustion and ultimately leaving us with a lack of connection, joy and creativity.
Ironically, you can love what you do so much you don’t know when to stop. Recognize what brings you joy and put that joy first. At the end of the day, the best way to avoid burnout is to give yourself permission to be wholly committed to your endeavors at their designated time and to be firm with anyone who attempts to violate these boundaries, including yourself.
Listen to this episode, to hear Katy and Melanie discuss the importance of reading more than just personal development books, the ugly side of hustle culture, and why color-coded time blockers are a game-changer.
Quotes
• “One of the most important things is to be surrounded by other people who are almost willing to call you out when they are seeing signs of burnout that you don’t even know exist within yourself.” (12:07-12:19 | Katy )
• “No matter what the signs are of burnout, you have to say, ‘Do I actually feel healthy? Do I feel good? Do I feel excited about the work that I get to do?’ Or are things starting to feel more heavy?’”(14:57-15:15 | Melanie)
• “I’m very good about saying, ‘It’s done. This is not a 24/7 business.’ It really is the hours I commit to.”(24:24-24:34 | Melanie)
• “It’s OK if you set healthy boundaries. Most business owners are afraid they’re going to lose business, so we kind of address that fear first. If someone can’t wait for you to respond for five hours or six hours because you are spending time with your family, they’re not your ideal client.” (26:02-26:20 | Katy)
