I think that process looks like finding a good person you trust.

0:06.7

Ideally, there's a vibe check and you find a therapist who you trust,

0:10.2

who feel safe enough to receive negative criticism on their performance, right?

0:15.2

Like somebody who really does have enough, like,

0:18.4

I'm trying to think of the word for it,

0:19.8

but like enough window of tolerance, like enough ventral regulation enough like, I'm trying to think of the word for it, but like enough window of

0:21.3

tolerance, like enough ventral regulation or like enough of them online that they, that you can

0:27.3

be like sort of back and forth with them. And like, you know they're going to give you good

0:31.3

feedback and be your loyal opposition. You find somebody like that. And maybe that person gets the

0:36.2

autism mental status exam from online, right?

0:39.5

And you guys just do it together or you have a conversation about it. And it's like, does this make

0:43.1

sense for me? Does it not? Because I do think that 3,000 hours that gets a person license matters.

0:50.3

Like, I think all the things we do in graduate school matter and to say those things are not important

0:56.3

because I believe I'm autistic grade doesn't change the fact that like you don't just become a plumber by like going out I want to fix things like and just wrench them like we don't just allow me who has no plumbing skills whatsoever to come work on the plumbing in your bathroom.

1:12.3

It would end very badly. And so I don't think it's any different with diagnosis. And I think really,

1:17.8

like, you find somebody you trust who has that loyal opposition, who has your interest at heart with

1:22.1

you, you have a conversation about it. And from that conversation, you decide, do I want to get

1:26.6

a referral for testing or not?

1:28.5

And in some cases, testing is not accessible. And so self-diagnosis is a great option, because

1:33.9

sometimes employers will take that. I don't know that it's a one-size-fit-all, but I do know

1:38.4

that, like, having somebody who has gone through therapy school does matter.
