His name is Paul Gosselin, G-O-S-S-E-L-I-N, and he wrote a two-volume set of books titled, Flight from the Absolute, Cynical Observations on the Postmodern West. The first one was published in 2006. The second was published 2009.
0:24.0	We're going to cover the first one and really fascinating philosophical inquiry into really postmodernism
0:30.9	and its effects on a wide variety of our culture and thinking. And in his foreword, he has this sentence, which I'm
0:39.7	going to repeat before we kind of get started talking about the book. And it is quote,
0:43.4	very few people identify themselves as postmoderns. And yet one observes that the behavior and
0:48.2	attitudes of the masses are to a great extent molded by postmodern presupposition. So we're going to kind of go into detail about this radical change and in this kind of culture we're announced.
1:00.2	So Paul Goslin, are you there?
1:02.0	Yes, yes.
1:03.6	Well, for people who may not have heard your name, can you talk a little bit about your background
1:06.7	and what led you to write this first volume of flight from the absolute?
1:12.1	Well, my background is in social anthropology, so, and specializing in religions, ideologies, and
1:20.7	belief systems. So that leads fairly naturally into, you know, the present culture and the, the ideas, the beliefs that
1:33.3	dominate our present culture.
1:36.3	And, but just to give a little background, for example, the concept of postmodernism, well,
1:43.3	it naturally leads to the question okay
1:45.2	where this is what is modernism too as well because we modernism is basically you have if
1:54.2	you're looking at the history the cultural history of the west you have the middle ages
2:00.2	and then followed by the Reformation, the Renaissance,
2:03.6	which are largely dominated by the Judeo-Christian worldview, either Catholics or Protestants,
2:10.6	and eventually the Anabaptist tradition coming along to as well.
2:17.7	But mixed into that, many people will view this time period as, okay, this is the Christian
2:26.3	West.
