This is CBS Eye in the World. I'm John Bachelors. To Australia, Scott Maiman of CBS News and Brisbane,

looking at the politics of the moment down under. The Prime Minister Anthony Albanese,

confirming that he intends in the next two months to travel to mainland China in conversation

with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This said to be marking the 50th anniversary of the visit of a

Prime Minister Goff Whitlam, his visit to China in 1973. But things are very different

here in 2023 than any part of the 20th century. China is seen as a threat to peace in Asia,

at the same time China has conducted its affairs these last years to punish the people of Australia

for standing up for something that we all want to hear the bottom up, which is COVID-19. What was

the origin? The Australians are asking the same questions the Americans are asking. We need a

full inquiry if we're going to get through this and if it doesn't come again. But since then,

a sense that the Australians requested honesty, they've been punished one way is to embargo their

wine. Scott, Anthony Albanese says he's going to China respectfully. Will he also speak of this

embargo without having to go to the WTO? Your opinion, Scott. Good evening to you.

John, there are multiple facets to this very interesting announcement in the past week

from the Prime Minister that he's visiting and hoping to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

No date fixed yet, but we should point out that the crippling trade sanctions came in as a result

of the previous Australian government supporting that inquiry into the origins of COVID-19. Then

all hell broke loose. We've also seen Australians be incarcerated in China for various reasons.

So our Prime Minister is hopeful of a dialogue. He says the way to get things done is to show
