Hello, it's Tuesday, the 3rd of August, and thanks for joining me for the latest on travel and destinations

from the Green List and the travel desk of the Independent. Today, all change for the Amber

Watch List, the view from Canada on the UK's border rules, and British Airways is back

and it will be with you each Friday morning at 7. What a 24 hours it has been. On Monday, a government minister was doing the round saying

how important a new Amber Watch list category would be. The idea is that this is for countries,

perhaps including Spain or parts of it, where there are high infection rates and therefore the possibility

that it could be moved from Amber, which doesn't actually require quarantine when you come

back to the UK as long as you've been fully vaccinated to Red, which requires hotel quarantine

at great expense.

The new Amber Watch List, which apparently was dreamed up by the Transport Secretary Grant Shaps,

and promoted widely over the weekend, would solve a problem in the sense that it would say to people,

ooh, you're really sure you want to book a holiday in Spain?

It could turn red at any time.

Now, as I've previously explained, it is absolutely fatuous to suggest that the current hotel

quarantine system could possibly cope with a large influx of people from a country

...
