Sea Scientific Research Station, manned by the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party. This is in the Ross Sea of Antarctica,

the same area for the U.S. as McMurdo Station, and also stations by New Zealand, South

Korea, Italy, Germany, and France.

However, what we're looking out here is a new challenge to the US and its allies.

It's not dissimilar from the challenge that Africa represented in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Colonial Contest.

Gregory, the Chinese station looks to be at this point emphasizing its scientific

operations to be staged to be stationed there year-round. What do we understand

about the Chinese presentation and the treaties that are in place in Antarctica?

Well, the whole Antarctica situation is up for grabs.

Yes, the Chinese, the new Chinese station which inaugurated in February is a part of it and that's the third Chinese base that has been built in Antarctica in the past 10 years.

They now have five and three of them,

like the news station, which is called Chinnling,

are operating year-round, which is not an easy thing to do.
