Summary

The Amateur Traveler talks to Matt Anderson about a recent trip to Taiwan during the Chinese new year celebration. Matt, who is an English teacher in South Korea, started his trip in Taiwan’s capital of Taipei before exploring the eastern coast and the rich heritage of Taiwan’s aboriginal people in the south. In Taipei Matt recommends eating at the Shilin night market where the fried chicken and the sausage are particularly good. Matt and his girlfriend also went to Taipei 101 (which is now the world’s 2nd tallest building), the Chiang Kai-shek memorial, and an assortment of temples including the Confucius temple, the Bo-an temple and the Longshan temple.Matt explored the rugged and less populated east coast on a bike trip that started in Hualien. He visited the Taroko Gorge near to Hualien and nearly spent a night in jail… but it’s not what you think. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

flight 1549, and they've come out with some recommendations, like actually putting LIFES on planes.

0:52.5

That plane was not required to carry LIFES because it wasn't planning

The other interesting thing that I saw in that

that you should all pay attention to

1:02.1

is that only 33 passengers reported to having put on a life

1:06.3

vest and only four managed to completely fasten it. So next time they do the safety demonstration, pay attention.

1:15.0

And the second news story comes out of that failed terrorist attack in New York City.

1:20.0

The good news was they managed very quickly to identify the suspect and to put

1:25.6

them on the no-fly list. The bad news is the airline he got on, Emirates, was using an old copy of the list and so they've changed the

1:35.5

rules to make airlines check the no-fly list just a little more often.

1:40.4
