Welcome to the politics guys. I'm Michael Barronowski, a political scientist at Northern Kentucky University.

My co-host this week, as always, is Cleveland Area Attorney and sometime Republican strategist, Jay Carson.

Here's our Ask the Politics Guys question for this week, Jay.

It comes from Tyler in Los Angeles.

It's kind of a two-parter, so here we go.

Tyler asks, part one, is there a way to hold our politicians responsible for the words that come out of their mouths?

Part two, if we have a country where the majority of Americans believe a bunch of half-truths and lies perpetuated by our politicians,

I believe it undermines our democracy. How can we make informed voting decisions when there is

so much misinformation out there? I think that's a really good, a very relevant question,

wouldn't you say? Yeah, it's really kind of fundamental to the whole project here. Absolutely. So

what's your first take on this? Well, on the one hand, I do think we probably hold politicians

accountable, maybe more accountable than we used to, to what they say, partly just because

of media the way it is now that almost everything someone

says is recorded in some form and is available to be looked up and found in some form pretty

quickly, pretty easily. That wasn't always the case. So I think there's more accountability on the one hand.

The other thing that groups do, and you can say this is good or bad,

but particularly among conservative groups, anytime someone runs for office,

people send out questionnaires, and there are a lot of groups that, you know, ask for a no new taxes pledge.

They ask, you know, politicians, will you pledge that you won't do anything to destroy the republic as we know it?

Well, no, I mean, like.
