And we start off with stocks sliding into the weekend, dropping sharply midday to close

near their lows of the session.

The sell-offs seem to be sparked by Apple, which took a big leg lower at about two o'clock.

The world's biggest company closing the day down nearly 5%, its biggest loss since last

September, for the week.

The Dow was down over percent, the SAP 500 and Nasdaq, both more than 2%.

These indices each posted their worst weekly performances since March.

Meantime, the VIX, it rocketed higher.

The fear and expouncing on the week closing above 17 for the first time since May.
