0:00.0 | We're welcome to Conversations with John and Lisa. I'm obviously Lisa and I'm joined by my husband John and today we're actually going to highlight some of the kind of the amazing insights that you brought in one of our team meetings. |
0:22.0 | You taught on Servanthood, you talked about what it means to serve. So, before everybody turns this off, this is not a bondage. |
0:33.0 | This is something that you will be absolutely thrilled about when we're done with. So let's just move on. Go ahead. |
0:39.0 | Should I have not done that? Okay, you know, listen, I want to say before we dive in, we love to hear from you and it really, really helps us when you subscribe or rate the show. And here's to somebody that was like, this is anonymous, but this is what they said. |
0:53.0 | I always feel satisfied and more armed when I finish a podcast from Conversations. I feel more equipped for life because of how Christ is the focus of these conversations. Thank you for investing in us. |
1:07.0 | Our team really helps us look good in that dynamic. So, John, now that I've got everybody super excited about. |
1:14.0 | Well, you talk about focusing on Christ. We're going to focus on Jesus Christ. Yeah, I'm going to just I'm going to just quote here Matthew 28, Matthew 20, verse 28. Jesus, this Jesus saying, I did not come to be served, but to serve. |
1:31.0 | So he's a role model. And if you look at Philippians chapter two, it says he humbled himself. So you're always going to see humility and servanthood together and he became a servant. And because of this God highly exalted him. So there's a reward in servanhood. |
1:45.0 | So let's let's just talk about Jesus example. I mean, the favorite one and I can do this quickly is when he watched the disciples feet and I want everybody to stop and think for a minute. |
1:55.0 | Okay. All right. As a minister, as a communicator, if any of you are communicators, if you've ever been asked to do a speech, what do you do? You save your most important aspect of your message until very last. |
2:07.0 | Now, this is not only his final illustrated sermon before his crucifixion. It's his final sermon to these guys. And what he basically did is back then, there were just pay. There was his dirt roads and there was, you know, lot of junk on the roads. And they were. |
2:23.0 | And they were just transport. Yes, the animal transport. When you went into a very wealthy home, there's like 20 or 30 servants in the very lowest on the on the totem pole. |
2:32.0 | It usually was a female Lisa would wash the family or the guests feet before they came in. Now, Jesus is at a very wealthy family because he's got 13 people up in a room. And they're separate from the rest of the family. And they're having a quiet dinner. |
2:45.0 | So these guys had just come in saw the lowest servant in the entire household, washed their feet. And Jesus disrobes at the end of dinner and takes the base and in the towel. |
2:54.0 | And this is why Peter is so upset because he realizes he knows in this culture, the bottom servant, the lowest on the totem pole is the one that does this. |
3:06.0 | Jesus said, you call me Lord and King and you say rightly. So he was making it very clear. I am King of the universe. But he said, if I, your Lord and King have done this for you, you do it to one another. I have left this to you as an example, which tells you and I right away to live a life of well, a life full of life. |
3:29.0 | We have to take a servant's heart on us as Jesus did. And you know, serving has got a bad rap because people have made people, you know, people into slaves and all of this and then they get resentful. |
3:42.0 | I have to have done it. Right. And what I'd like to say is this, there are slaves and there are servants. And you're a slave if you have to. And you're a servant if you get to. |
3:54.0 | Right. And what this is what Jesus was communicating saying, hey, look, Roman law says this Roman person tells you to walk their horse. You got to drop your groceries on the on the street. |
4:04.0 | All your ice cream is going to melt. You're going to lose all your perishables. And you got to walk that Roman citizens horse one mile. Jesus saying, why, why do you want to do that when you can be a servant? Why do you want to be a slave and do that when you being a servant and go to miles. |
4:19.0 | So Jesus isn't saying, hey, make sure your groceries are all done with right by going to miles. He is saying nobody can make you a slave if you choose to be a servant. Right. |
4:30.0 | Because the slave has to a servant gets to and Jesus chose to say, father, I'm going to go to that earth. And I want everybody to stop and think about it. None of us. |
