On the 2020 campaign trail, about a week after several surprising victories on Super Tuesday,

Joe Biden gave a speech in Detroit.

And in that speech, he said.

Look, I view myself as a bridge, not as anything else.

Senators Kamla Harris and Corey Booker

and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer were there campaigning for

Biden and he pointed to them and said,

There's an entire generation of leaders you saw stand behind me. They are the

future of this country. Biden had made similar comments in the past,

but many people understood his words that day

to mean one specific thing,

that Biden planned to be a one-term president.

A lot of people interpreted that as him saying,

all I'm here to do is just get rid of this guy who's president

and then we'll talk about what comes next.

But he, unbeknownst to a lot of real people, has hated the idea of only running for one term.
