When we left our story, there had been a mistrial in the curious case of a mailbox theft

at the home of Louis and Catherine Kalloha.

He is Honolulu's police chief and she's one of the city's top prosecutors.

The man accused of the theft is Gerard Puana, Catherine's uncle.

But Gerard and his mom Florence say the real crime has been committed by this power couple.

In today's episode, you'll find out what happens when someone stands up to corruption at the highest levels of government.

Today is the conclusion of our two-part story, which brings us back to Hawaii, where we are looking

deep inside the curious case of a mailbox theft that has already torn a family apart and now threatens to tear apart the entire city of Honolulu.

When we left our story, a mistrial had just been declared during the criminal trial of

Gerard Puana, accused of stealing the mailbox at the home of Honolulu's chief of police

Louis Kalloha. The trial has extra intrigue because Kalloha's wife, Catherine, is also

Poana's niece.

Reporter Lynn Kawano is still not quite sure why she was sent to cover a trial

about a stolen mailbox,

but Poana's lawyer,

Alexander Silver, is about to do something public defenders almost never do.
