So everyone at this point has heard, of course, about the fire at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

We've seen pictures. We saw it happening live. There's been a lot of discussion of what's happened

due to the fire. What I wanted to talk about with you is,

essentially, why is it so special?

Why do we care so much about it?

So I want to start very simply.

The cathedral, when was it built?

How long did it take to build?

Why was it commissioned?

The cathedrals began to be built in 1163.
