Apologies that lie. Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022.

Dear Dawson, I'm glad things are going so well and I am doubly glad that you've been

given an opportunity to apply what we've been talking about in your relationship with

Lauren, and you've seen a very good fruit.

Your reaction to all these things has been especially telling, and good.

And to top it off, you now tell me that the ring is actually in your possession just

waiting for an opportune time. So with all that said, we're getting near the end of what

I would like to leave with you, but as we do so, I want to go back and develop something

I touched on in an earlier letter.

What I said earlier was this, quote, let's say you had a little spat, one that she was

entirely responsible for, and at the end of it, in order to make peace, you were the one

who apologized. That meant that you were trying to build your relationship with her on

the foundation of lies, and she knew it. You were both lying, but she was more aware of

it, and didn't like it more than you didn't like it, close quote, an earlier letter.

What I want to talk about here is the importance of truth telling in a relationship, but in

order to do that intelligently, we also have to address the nature of truth telling.

First, Christians are followers of the one who is the truth, John 146. We should therefore

be people who speak the truth. The Ten Commandments prohibit false witness, Exodus 2016.

Colossians says that we are not to lie to one another, now that we put off with the old

man with his deeds. Colossians 3.9. And the Lake of Fires reserved for liars, Revelation 21.8.
