Summary

He tucks his hands into his armpits to warm them, his teeth chatter on the cold, but when

he touches his forehead, it feels hot, somehow he's both shivering and burning up.

It's April 16, 1970, and it's been a miserable night for Hayes.

Whatever illness has been brewing inside him since yesterday has now come on full force.

He feels queasy and his joints ache, it also hurts when he pees.

He figures he probably has a kidney infection from dehydration, brought on by the strict
