Today is April 8, with less than two months left to my Apocalypse Grow challenge, where I will grow, forage, or fish all of my food for a month. I'm scared...but it's fun at the same time. I figured I'd update you all as to where I'm at on this challenge.   Order Field Guide to Urban Gardening My book, Field Guide to Urban Gardening, will be out May 7, 2019. If you pre-order the book and forward your receipt to kevin@epicgardening.com, I'll send you a free pack of heirloom, organic seeds from one of my favorite seed suppliers! Hello everyone welcome back today we're doing a an audio log episode of my

0:07.0

progress on the apocalypse grow challenge so if you're not aware what I'm doing for the

0:12.4

month of June is I'm going to be surviving off of what I can grow, fish, forage, or barter for an entire month.

0:19.0

So 30 days in June.

0:21.0

And that obviously is a big challenge, right? And certainly not something I've ever done on that scale so we're going to see how it goes and I figured I'd pop in every now and then and give you an update.

So I was recently abroad for about a week and I was actually pretty scared that my garden wouldn't be looking too hot when I got back.

0:38.0

However, during that week we got two days of rain, so I was really, really lucky to have that and my garden was

0:45.7

absolutely thriving when I came back now let's talk about what I actually have

0:49.9

planted right now I've got got, let's see, three beds of white, yellow, and red tomatoes

0:57.8

respectively, so one bed of each and that's about 12 square feet so I have one

1:02.0

potato per square foot, so a total of 36

1:04.6

potatoes in those beds then I have at least 8 to 10 grow bags worth of potatoes

1:11.4

varying from white yellow red potatoes this would be the

1:16.7

warba potatoes the Yukon golds and the Norland red potatoes respectively and those are in felt pots anywhere from 10 to 25 gallons

1:26.7

experiencing a lot of success with those I'm having really really good growth in all of the

1:32.0

containers as well as the raised beds. Some of them just got

1:34.8

dug up a couple times by the skunk so they were set back a little bit but for the most

1:38.1

part they're doing pretty well. Now I also have beans and peas going in a couple of different raised beds as well as in a

1:46.8

vertical tower system that's made out of soil not hydroponics.

1:51.5

So that's called the Green stock garden and I believe there are

1:54.0

30 different grow pockets on that that I've dedicated towards a mixture of

1:57.8

greens, strawberries, and beans. Beans going to certainly be a staple of the diet because it's very hard in the
