Summary

As I sat glued to the couch with my flu-stricken voice, I found myself reflecting on my goals for 2026 with unexpected waves of fear and overwhelm. Goals and I have had a complicated history; they once defined my life, yet I stepped away from them for nearly a decade. However, the Do Something List, born from a need to explore rather than achieve, has become an anchor in my life. Looking back at 2025, I marvel at how this list has helped me stay grounded through another transformative year. As we approach 2026, I'm filled with hope and anticipation. There's so much ahead—turning 40, the podcast's 10th anniversary, and a book launch, among other things. My focus for the year is to embrace rest and hobbies, ensuring my Do Something List reflects these needs. Join me as we embark on this year of growth and exploration together! Forgive my voice. I'm a little under the weather, but doing fine. Just my voice hasn't recovered yet from the flu that I had.

0:23.1

While my backside was essentially glued to the couch the last few days, I took a moment to reflect on what my goals should be for 2026.

0:31.8

And as I was doing that, I had kind of a surprising reaction come up internally.

0:36.6

I felt a lot of fear and overwhelm and even

0:41.8

sadness. There was something about brainstorming those goals that made the inner critic

0:47.1

inside me think none of this is possible and who do you think you are and that's going to take a lot

0:52.2

of work and none of that's going to work out anyway. Goals and I have had a complicated relationship. For many years, I lived and died by my goals.

1:02.4

And if I met their outcomes. And then I stepped away from goalmaking in any form for almost a decade.

1:09.2

While I do lean back into goals, you can see it's still complicated

1:12.9

for me as something I have to work through and do so very gently. I share that all because I know

1:20.0

making goals and resolutions is not for everybody. Or sometimes you've had a particularly hard year.

1:27.0

Or you're just simply out of practice in

1:30.1

prioritizing what you want and need out of your life. That was the case for me now 10 years ago,

1:35.5

when instead of making a goals and resolutions list, I made a different kind of list,

1:41.1

one that was not about outcomes, instead it was about figuring out who I was.

1:46.8

That list is now known as the do something list in this community. It's a way for us to do something,

1:52.9

not all, not nothing, in ways that help us explore who we are, what we like, what we don't like,

1:59.3

what we're interested in, what kind of hobbies we

2:01.5

want, how we want to spend our time, and so much more. My first list was 30 things I wanted to do

2:07.0

before I turned 30, and it completely changed my life. And not only helped me find Monica again,
