Summary

It’s the final Analysing Anfield preview podcast of the 2019-20 season but before Josh Williams and David Hughes get stuck into the games against Chelsea and Newcastle United, they look at just how newly crowned champions Liverpool somehow managed to lose at Arsenal. That then leads into a discussion about Mohamed Salah who, with a third successive Golden Boot potentially up for grabs, seems to be shooting from anywhere more than ever, and the difference between the Egyptian and his strike-partner Sadio Mane. Did the defeat at Arsenal underline the need for another forward option off the bench? Josh and Dave talk that before moving on to Chelsea, tomorrow's visitors to Anfield, and a side who will have a plethora of attacking options next season given Kai Havertz could be joining Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge, where veteran frontman Olivier Giroud is playing some of the best football of his career. But even with buying some of the best available offensive talent on the market, will Chelsea get close to Liverpool next season? The scouting writers try to answer that question before previewing the match with Frank Lampard’s side and Sunday’s trip to a Newcastle United team who, looking at the underlying numbers, should be in relegation trouble. 0:32.0

Yeah, my... the podcast first did I? Yeah my priorities are coming into question over these

0:37.0

last seven days but you know hopefully people forgive me it was nice to have a

0:41.7

couple days off. yeah well to be honest the

0:46.3

the standing me and Christian we actually predicted the first game pretty as

0:52.0

wrong as you can possibly get it probably game pretty much

0:55.0

strong, strong, reasons.

0:58.0

We talked about so

0:55.0

rational.

0:59.6

Maybe what talked about was very early on of the restart where you know we've

1:06.2

lived people just gonna lose that that one or two percent in terms of

1:11.2

motivation once they won the league, then it's going to be enough to maybe just create these kind of crazy moments, these irregular things that don't normally happen in Liverpool games with

1:27.1

Liverpool players and obviously you're playing teams as well who have still got their own ambitions to pursue over these final games.

1:36.5

For example, Arsenal, you know, they need a win to kind of keep European hopes alive, you know,

1:42.3

the pool of, they would be able to keep European hopes alive, you know, the pool of an OD with

1:44.0

pursue and the record points tally which I do believe was a motivation but obviously not

1:50.9

to the same extent of trying to win a league title and I think yeah all those factors just create this this little bit of a of a different Liverpool side that we've seen over the last couple of games.
