If you've been around here, you know how we typically do it. This is the moment in the gathering

where we open up the Word of God and read a passage. We've been moving together through the

book of First John in the New Testament and really just taking it like a paragraph at a time,

reading the scripture, praying, and then talking through it verse by verse, trying to

understand what the word says about who God is, what it is to know him,

and then applying it to our lives. That's a great thing to do, arguably my favorite thing to do

in a gathering like this, to preach the word of God and to apply it to our lives. But every now

and again, a couple times a year, we shift the way we do things here and lean more heavily on a testimony. Someone standing

up to saying, let me tell you how these truths have impacted my decisions in life. Let me tell

you what the grace of God available in Jesus Christ that we talk about here has done for me.

And this is one of those Sundays. We've done it with baptism. Some of you've been here

baptism gatherings where we put the water up here and people tell the story about the grace of God

has changed their life and we baptize them. Other times we have interviews like today. And there's

something beautiful about that. I think it's one of the gracious things God does for us in his word

that as you read it, so much of the inspired word is testimony

the story of how men like Abraham and Moses women like Mary trusted God and we see how he fills their

life with meaning as they walk by faith in him and so there's a place to see how the grace of God

works out in somebody else's

life to inspire our own life. I think about the book of Acts in the New Testament.
