Hello and welcome to the Bill Press Pod reporter's roundtable.

I'm Jeff Dufour, editor-in-chief of the National Journal, sitting in for Bill, who was off studying in Europe.

Here in Washington, D.C., it's about 8.30 in the morning on Friday, April 19th, and it is a fluid

situation here. Even among the lofty standards of 2024, this was an insane week in Washington.

The Senate dismissed the first impeachment of a cabinet secretary in more than a century. The

foreign policy establishment is trying to manage further escalation in the than a century. The foreign policy establishment is trying

to manage further escalation in the Mideast. The house may have hit rock bottom in the dysfunction

department, but maybe just maybe it's bouncing back up enough to pass aid to Ukraine. Oh, and for the

first time in American history, an ex-president is going on trial for criminal charges. Here to help us

sort it all out, our three top Washington reporters, all of whom, I am proud to say, are making their

debut on the reporter's roundtable. We have Minnie Raker, politics reporter for The Daily Beast,
