| 0:00.0 | I. Welcome to Idi The Future. I'm Casey Luskin and today we're going to talk about whether the |
| 0:17.7 | Cosmos was engineered. We have with us Professor Dominique Helzmer, a professor of engineering at oral Roberts University. |
| 0:25.0 | Dominique, it's great to have you on the show with us. |
| 0:27.0 | Well, it's great to be here, Casey. |
| 0:29.0 | So Dominique, as I said, you're a professor of engineering at oral Roberts University and we wanted to have you |
| 0:34.3 | on the show because you wrote a textbook titled Hacking the Cosmos, how reverse engineering |
| 0:39.6 | uncovers organization, ingenuity, and the care of a maker. |
| 0:44.0 | But before we get into your book a little bit, |
| 0:46.0 | what else can you tell us about your background |
| 0:48.0 | and what was your motive for writing this textbook? |
| 0:51.0 | Well, I've been teaching engineering at all Roberts University for about 29 years now, and I've been |
| 0:57.6 | enjoying that quite a bit. |
| 0:59.1 | Before that, I got my PhD at UCLA in mechanical engineering and my bachelor's and |
| 1:05.0 | and master's in aeronautical and astronomical engineering |
| 1:08.2 | from Purdue University. |
| 1:10.3 | And I also, while I've been at ORU, I've completed a Masters in biblical literature. |
| 1:17.0 | Wow, that's wonderful. So you've got quite a background for thinking about engineering through a lens of science and faith I would imagine. |
| 1:24.7 | Right, and that's one of the reasons why I wanted to pursue that master's in biblical literature |
| 1:28.8 | because I have a strong interest in science faith questions. And the reason I wrote the book really was to |
| 1:35.6 | I was thinking if my engineering students said ORU and having a textbook for them |
| 1:41.3 | especially the intro to engineering students, the freshman coming in, |
| 1:45.0 | first year students to orient them to the science and faith conversation and the role that |
