Summary

When races go amazing—and when they go amazingly off the rails.

Join Dimity as she gives her National Championship Long Course Aquabike race report, and then fields race reports from coaches Jennifer Harrison (Ironman Wisconsin) and Elizabeth Waterstraat (70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah).

Tune in to hear the trio talk about:

—The importance of mentally creating space for your race at the beginning of race week;

—Why the size of your age group—or the race itself—does not deserve any "it was only..." qualification;

—How Liz mentally moved on after her bike broke during mile 1;

—and how Jen is coming to terms with a serious medical scare–and her first DNF in decades of racing—at mile 15 of her Iornman run.

It's Race Report Day, so exciting. If you're anything like me, the race report is the best part of the experience.

0:43.0

It's also super bonding, especially right after the race, but it also, you know, a couple weeks after it gives you a chance to process the overall experience, as well as think about the highs and the lows and what you do differently.

0:55.0

We've definitely got some highs and lows for you today, because we're going to share three race reports.

I'm here with coaches Jennifer Harrison and Elizabeth Waterstrat, who coached me for seven months to compete in the USA Triathlon Long Course National Champion Aqua Bike,

1:10.0

which is a 1.2-mile swim, followed by a 56-mile bike. It's not riding your bike on the water, as some people have asked me.

1:18.0

We'll chat about that for a bit, and then we'll talk to Elizabeth about her experience at the 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah,

1:26.0

and finally, we'll circle back to a Whopper of a Day at Ironman, Wisconsin, with Jennifer. Stay tuned.

Okay, let's start with me. We talked in early August about racing, digging in, going for it, so that was my overall goal.

1:43.0

I just, I mean, I really wanted to race and feel like, feel like what it felt like to race and leave it all out there.

1:50.0

And because, you know, I can't ask myself the questions. I'm going to ask you guys, put you guys on this spot.

1:54.0

So, so, Jan, I'm curious. And no, again, you are, you are here as my coach, not as my colleague. So, how do you think I did?

2:02.0

Horrible.

2:04.0

You know what? Elizabeth, I know I speak for Elizabeth when I talk about you. You know, it was just so fun.

2:12.0

It's fun to see the other side of you as an athlete versus a colleague.

2:16.0

Yeah.

2:17.0

It's nice for you to see a little bit more of us as coaches, a little bit digging in, I guess, a little bit more detailed looking at the data.

2:23.0

Looking at the trends, looking at putting together a race, you know, plan, a race strategy, a race season strategy to get you to this big goal.

2:32.0

So, I thought you did a great job. You were consistent, dedicated, and flexible.

2:37.0

I think that's one of the key things with the training plan is that you, you know, life happens.
