I am your cult leader, Spencer Henry, and today's episode is awesome because as you guys know, I went to not scary farm last week.

I also just recently went to Universal Horror Nights and so I figured I wanted to do something based on a haunted house.

I've been wanting to cover this story for a while whether it was going to be on my Instagram stories or the podcast.

I thought I really knew this story, but there were so many details that I had no idea existed.

I generally try and find stories when I'm planning this on stories that maybe not everyone is super familiar with.

Some of that maybe people will find interesting that they haven't heard before.

But when I was researching this one, which is such a well-known story, I was surprised that there were so many facts throughout the dozens of articles and online threads that make the story so much more real detailed and just creepy.

It's 6.30pm Wednesday November 13th, 1974.

Ronald Butch Defeo frantically rushes the doors at Henry's bar in Amityville Long Island.

I think somebody shot my mom and dad.

Now, nobody could have imagined the tragic crime scene that was waiting for police at 112 Ocean Avenue, but it's still the inspiration behind countless horror movies and stories today.

That's how I found the story anyways was I've seen the movie Amityville Horror countless times, as I'm sure most of you have, and there's so many other movies based on this, but let's talk about what really went down.

Defeo's, they were doing pretty well.

The dad, Ron Sr., was 44 years old. He was a successful car salesman. The family had a car selling business, and he moved his family from their Brooklyn apartment that they were living in to this beautiful Dutch colonial home in Amityville Long Island.

The house is the one that I feel like they base off in the movies and stuff, and the house is no longer exists today.

The same as it was, they've completely redone it, but it's just like this beautiful two-story home, it has an attic, a boat house, and this charming sign-out front that says,

hopes were not high enough. When the incident occurred in 74, it wasn't like there was nothing leading up to it, right?
