Retro Hour podcast episode number 65, your weekly dose of retro gaming and technology news with me Dan Wood and. And me, Ravi Abbott. And this show is for you. If you've got memories of rushing home from school and button bashing on Sonic the Hedgehog on your Mega Drive, or maybe waiting 20 minutes for a game to load from cassette tape on your Sinclair Spectrum. Yeah, borrowing Tempe from your dad so you could play in the chip shop on the are the arcades or, you know, kind of getting some dodgy discs at school and loading them up. Ooh, ex-copy sessions. Yeah, definitely. You speak from experience, Ravi Intel. Yeah. Now, the way the show works is Ravi and I run through all the headlines, the big stories that have been making

the world of retro this week. And then, in the second half, we welcome a very special guest. And this

week, it's all about the Amiga demo scene. Oh yeah, we've got one of the top demo producers. This is

Kim Fredrickson, aka Psycho, from Bud Brain Productions.

And he's kind of telling us all about the European scene, the early demo scene,

and just the fun that they had back in the days.

Because it was, I mean, you go back to the late 80s, early 90s.

It was a massive youth culture, wasn't it, the demo scene? Yeah, and it was these giant parties full of kids watching video nasties, drinking coke. Just causing trouble, really. Drinking more than coke from the videos I've seen. A lot of underage boozing went on at those parties by the look of it. Well, there is actually some, like, videos if you look on YouTube, and I put a few of these in our show notes for I can find the links. Like, you know, people walking around with VHS camcorders and filming a lot of these demo parties all around Europe in the early 90s. And it just looks like anarchy. They look wild. Yeah, it looks absolutely mad. You know, kids also used to sleep underneath their desks with the big computers on top. Oh, it's fantastic. And he also worked in a retail shop so he can give us both angles. Yeah, what it used to be like trying to sell the computers as well as like have fun with them.
