So often we get these movies where we do this work, we do this hard work, we have these

awkward moments, these awkward conversations, and then we tied up so everyone can leave and go

to in and out and forget that they saw a film at all, you know?

And I try to make films that poor lead and people shoot, you know, so they can't get up

and they're stuck and they're asking themselves,

if this is true, then what am I doing to change it?

Today's episode takes us behind the scenes of director

Nate Parker's new drama, American Skin. Mr. Parker also stars in the film, as a Marine

veteran and school janitor who is trying to mend his relationship with his son after a divorce.

When his son is killed during a routine traffic stop and the police officer is acquitted,

he takes matters into his own hands.

In addition to American Skin, Mr. Parker's other directorial credits include the feature film

The Birth of a Nation, which earned him a DGA Award nomination for outstanding

directorial achievement and first-time feature film.

Mr. Parker spoke with fellow director Jeff Bird about filming American Skin in front of a virtual

audience.
